The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed significant benefit changes for 2024, impacting Universal Credit, PIP, and ESA payments.
Universal Credit standard allowances have increased by 6.7% from April 2024, reflecting both daily and monthly elements to help with the rising cost of living.
A one-off Cost of Living Payment was distributed in early 2024, providing £326 or £650 to low-income households to help with rising fuel and energy costs.
PIP rates have also increased by 6.7% from April 2024, with new weekly rates ranging from £60.00 to £89.15 for the daily living component and £23.60 to £62.40 for the mobility component.
ESA benefits, both income-related and contribution-based, have increased by 6.7% from April 2024, aiding those unable to work due to illness or disability but actively seeking employment.
Starting September 2024, all nine-month-old children will be eligible for 15 hours of free childcare per week, supporting parents returning to work or seeking employment.
These benefit changes and expansions aim to provide financial relief to millions, helping to mitigate the impact of rising living costs and support vulnerable families.
